In this activity, parents and kids can work together to create their own trumpet using simple materials found around the house. Not only is it a great way to spend time together, but it also teaches children the science behind how instruments work and allows them to explore the different sounds they can create.
Look at the images below to gather the materials you'll need and for the instructions!
While you do this activity, we encourage you to experiment with sound:
Encourage your child to explore the different sounds they can create by covering the horn with their hand or a mute, which can be made out of materials like cotton balls or tissue paper. Ask questions like, "What kind of sound does it make when you cover the horn?" and "What happens when you use the mute?"
It teaches children about the science of sound and the mechanics of how instruments work. It also promotes problem-solving skills and creativity as they experiment with different sounds and ways of playing their instrument. Plus, making music is a great way to reduce stress and improve mood.
